OK. So, I've got to share what's going on with New York state politics. It's crazy. Shortly after we arrived here, two democrats switched sides (the media called it a coup--how very drama queenish), which tipped the scales in the state senate. Now the senate is deadlocked 31 to 31, and nothing is getting done. The Governor of New York, David Patterson, has been talking tough and just announced today that he would appoint a Lieutenant Governor (a democrat, of course, since Patterson is a democrat), who would break the tie in the senate. Now there's a furor about whether this move is legal or not. It's really fascinating to watch. I've never seen state politics so inflamed! CNN doesn't say anything about it, but it sure is big news here.
Governor Patterson became governor when the former governor had to resign because of a prostitution scandal. Jeez-louise! Governor Patterson is also blind. Such a very interesting state we've moved to.
